¶ Overview
The XY timing belts are open-loop belts, consisting of an upper belt and a lower belt.
Both ends of each belt are fixed inside the printhead adapter. The belt path runs around 6 idler pulleys and one motor pulley.
¶ Important Notes
To re-route the timing belt:
- The left and right side panels, front panel, and rear panel of the machine must be removed. Refer to the U1 X-Axis Carbon Rod Replacement Guide for the procedure.
- The toolhead docking bracket must be removed. Refer to the U1 Toolhead Docking Bracket Assembly Replacement Guide for the procedure.
When re-routing the timing belt, pay attention to the belt orientation — do not allow it to twist or flip.
¶ Upper Belt Path
1. Route the belt around idler pulley 1
Facing the front of the machine, move the X axis to the center position. The smooth side of the belt should press against idler pulley 1.
2. Route the belt around idler pulley 2
3. Thread the belt through idler pulley 3
4. Route the belt around the motor pulley
The toothed side of the belt should press against the motor pulley.
5. Route the belt around idler pulley 4
6. Thread the belt through the Y-axis slider
7. Route the belt around idler pulley 5
8. Route the belt around idler pulley 6
Pull the belt left and right — if it moves smoothly and the motor pulley rotates in sync, the belt path is correct.
¶ Lower Belt Path
1. Route the belt around idler pulley 1
Facing the front of the machine, move the X axis to the center position. The smooth side of the belt should press against idler pulley 1.
2. Route the belt around idler pulley 2
3. Route the belt around idler pulley 3
You may flip the machine upside down for easier access.
4. Route the belt around the motor pulley
The toothed side of the belt should press against the motor pulley.
You may flip the machine upside down for easier access.
5. Route the belt around idler pulley 4
You may flip the machine upside down for easier access. Return the machine to its upright position once the belt has been pulled out from idler pulley 4.
6. Thread the belt through the Y-axis slider
7. Route the belt around idler pulley 5
8. Route the belt around idler pulley 6
Pull the belt left and right — if it moves smoothly and the motor pulley rotates in sync, the belt path is correct.
