The glass build plate of Artisan is double-sided, one being glass and the other PEI-coated, which can meet most daily demands of printing with different filaments. In general, we recommend printing on the PEI-coated side for its low-maintenance adhesion and excellent thermal conductivity. However, you could still try the glass side in the following scenarios:
- When you want an extremely flat and smooth bottom surface of the print.
- When printing with TPU.
- When the PEI coating shows signs of wear and tear.
Before printing on the glass side, we recommend：
- applying adhesives (like PVP glue sticks or tapes) on the build plate to enhance first-layer adhesion.

- cleaning the build plate with ethyl alcohol to prevent stains like grease or dust from weakening the adhesion.
It is not recommended to apply adhesives on the PEI-coated side, as doing so may make it harder to remove the print and cause damage to the PEI coating, especially if you attempt to remove the print when the temperature of the build plate is still high.

In general, we recommend printing on the textured PEI plate for its low-maintenance adhesion and excellent thermal conductivity. However, you could still try the smooth PEI plate in the following scenarios:
- When you want an extremely flat and smooth bottom surface of the print.
