By adjusting the laser height, we mean adjusting the Z-axis height of the laser module to ensure that the laser is best focused during machining, achieving optimal engraving and cutting results.
Place the material on the laser platform.
You can manually move the toolhead horizontally at any time, even if the machine is powered on.
The focal length of the 20W/40W Laser Module is fixed. Therefore, when the focus lever touches the material:
-If the line aligns with Scale 0, the laser beam will focus right on the surface of the material.
-If the line aligns with other scales, the focal point will move deeper inside the material.
The Laser Module is heavy. Therefore, before releasing the handle, make sure to hold the laser module securely to prevent it from slipping and falling, which may cause damage.
Manually move the toolhead downwards until the focus lever touches the material.
Lock the handle of the toolhead bracket.
Loosen the knob, retract the focus lever completely, and tighten the knob.
If the height of the toolhead changes unintentionally before the task begins, repeat the steps above to refocus the laser.
We have designed a printable calibration target for users who have lost theirs. Feel free to download the STL file and print it out. Calibration Target Model for Snapmaker Ray.STL
You can either watch the video tutorial, or follow the instructions below.

Besides using the calibration target, you can also do manual focusing by manually moving the toolhead up and down until the laser spot becomes the smallest on the surface of the material.
You can manually move the toolhead horizontally at any time, even if the machine is powered on.
As the focal length of the 2W Laser Module is fixed, when the focus lever touches the material and the line above the knob aligns with Scale Focus, the laser beam will focus right on the surface of the material.
