If you notice the heated bed cover coming loose while printing with the U1 — typically indicated by the four corners of the bed sagging downward, refer to this article to understand the specific causes.
The heated bed cover refers to the white plastic enclosure wrapped around the outer edge of the heated bed (the white shell labeled “BUILD VOLUME | 270 x 270 x 270 mm”).
To allow the heated bed plate to reach thermal stability as quickly as possible during heating, the U1 heated bed cover is not rigidly fixed to the aluminum plate. Instead, it adopts a suspended structure. The fixing screws (circled in red) are cushioned with soft silicone pads, and the four corners are not secured with screws. Under normal conditions, they can all be pressed slightly downward.
This design is intentional. When the heated bed is in operation, the temperature is high, and the aluminum plate expands and contracts due to thermal changes. If the outer cover were tightly locked in place, thermal expansion and contraction would place stress on the aluminum plate, potentially causing deformation and requiring a longer time to return to a flat and stable state.
By allowing a certain amount of clearance between the cover and the aluminum plate, the plate can expand and contract freely, reach thermal equilibrium more quickly, and deliver better print quality. Therefore, slight looseness of the cover is considered normal.
This is mainly due to the different thermal expansion coefficients of the heated bed aluminum plate and the plastic cover. When heated, the plastic expands more than the aluminum plate. As the cover uses a suspended design and its four corners are not rigidly fixed, it may expand outward after heating, resulting in looseness or sagging. This can sometimes be accompanied by unusual noise.
